Can you believe it? It’s our birthday this week!
Yes, the Philly Pressbox Radio Roundtable made its debut on April 30, 2014, with “sports junkie” Kevin McClure joining Bill Furman and yours truly on that very first show, and we’re now turning 3 years old. Since that first episode, we’ve done more than 130 shows, having welcomed about 55 different guests.
We’ve been fortunate to have lots of Philadelphia-area media folks visit the show, many of them making multiple appearances: Ray Didinger, Mark Eckel, Kevin Cooney, Frank Fitzpatrick, Brandon Lee Gowton, Mike Kern, Bill Meltzer, Mike Sielski, Tom Moore, to name a few. We’ve had several great broadcasters as well: Tom McCarthy, Tom McGinnis, Dei Lynam, Leslie Gudel, Chris Wheeler and the great Merrill Reese. Eagles video-content manager and draft expert Fran Duffy is another favorite.
Getting to chat with former Eagles coach Dick Vermeil last December was pretty awesome, too. And we’ve been honored to have been joined by a slew of former Philly pro athletes including ex-Eagles Fred Barnett, Bill Bergey, Barrett Brooks, Bill Bradley, Garry Cobb, Ken Dunek, Denny Franks, Seth Joyner, Vince Papale, Mike Reichenbach and Kevin Reilly, former Phils Larry Christenson and Glenn Wilson, Overbrook High hoops legend Andre McCarter, ex-Flyers Brian Propp and Bob “Hound” Kelly, roller derby Hall of Famer Judy Arnold and even 5-time Wing Bowl champion Bill Simmons, “El Wingador”! The former athletes are always ready to share some great stories.
We thank all of those mentioned above, plus contributors Fred Hugo, Steve Cwitkowitz and Carl Henderson, as well as everyone else who’s visited the show, and we especially thank our loyal listeners. We wouldn’t still be doing the show without your feedback and support. We start our fourth year next week, and we promise you: There’s plenty more great Philly sports chatter still to come, so … stick around! –Jim “Chet” Chesko
