The holiday season is a wonderful time of the year, and it’s also a time when many charities do some of their most important work, and that includes a lot of folks in our Philly Pressbox Radio circle.
Mike Barnes and Michael & Ellen Barkann continue to do terrific things at the Barkann Foundation for families in need. Kudos to our buddy Frank Kolachny for all that he and his family do in their mission to feed and clothe the homeless – 24 years’ worth! Carl’s Cards frequently donates sports memorabilia for fundraising events, having been a big part of various functions like Treats for Troops and The Hamels Foundation Diamonds & Denim, plus a special recent Fundraiser For a Friend (a family who lost a son to an opiod overdose). Sharon Snyder at the Kisses for Kyle Foundation does some great work to help families impacted by childhood cancer. Robbie Ellis does a lot to help in the effort to find homes for death-row cats and dogs.
And, remember last month when we had Nick McIlwain from WMMR’s Preston & Steve Show on our Philly Pressbox Radio show? Well, they had their 20th Annual Camp Out for Hunger all last week – I was there on Thursday – and wait til you hear their final numbers: Donations totaled 1.68 million pounds of food and $273,000 cash … all of which will allow for 2.2 million meals to be provided through Philabundance. Fantastic job by all involved (our sponsor Irish Rover Station House was among the drop-off spots for donations) and a big thumbs up to everyone who donated.
The great work by all of those I mentioned and the numerous other great charities I didn’t … will make for a happier holiday season for many. –Jim “Chet” Chesko
